The Toronto Maple Leafs had a 3-0 lead and wound up losing to the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in the shootout, but it was a little more complicated than your standard blown lead.

The injury list has been pretty long already this season for the Maple Leafs, who find themselves down several regulars in the early going. Now, one of the players called up to cover for those injuries is injured himself without even playing one game. Per the NHL’s media site, winger Miles Wood has been placed on injured reserve.

The Maple Leafs have restructured their forward lines to address key performance issues. New combinations feature Kirill Marchenko with John Tavares and Nick Paul, and a balanced third line blending checking and scoring.
